18 gold medals were awarded on the second day of the European Youth Olympics Festival. Most medals were won by the Russians as well. Kayak-canoe, cycling, judo & gymnastics have begun competing.
Amy Platten won the first English gold medal in the judo hall.
Switzerland won girls time trial in cycling: Ronja Blöchlinger was the fastest. On the 10 km long race, boys had to fight with the strong wind in some places; Villiam Blume Levy won a gold medal for Denmark.
The first gold medal in athletics was won by Julia Kivinen from Finland in female hammer throwing. Europe’s fastest runners at this age were spotted: among girls the French Aurelien Laure meanwhile among boys the Dutch Minke Bisschops won the 100m running. The fourth gold medal in athletics was won by the Austrian Gruenwald Ingeborg, in long jump.
The French also won their first gold medal at the Youth Olympics in boys 400m freestyle swimming. The Russians triumphed in other competitions held today: they won all of the other five gold medals
First, the lightest judokas started to fight. A Belgian athlete won first prize when she beat her Azerbaijan opponent in the finals. Csanád Feczkó won the third gold medal for Hungary, and the two other gold were won by the British and the Turkish athletes.
In boys gymnastics, the main goal was to get into the individual finals, but the Russians, before Great-Britain & Switzerland, also won the national team’s gold medal.
